For our students with executive functioning ADHD related issues, we have seen how great the Special Projects class is and how it can be useful to almost every student!
Special Projects has become extremely popular at Bachman Academy, and we are excited to bring it to the summer program. First of all, safety is paramount, so protective gear is required for all students at all times. We supply safety gear and work with each student individually to ensure they understand the proper use and function of each item.
Students will learn to read building plans and architectural drawings. They need to understand the process of creating something in the real world based on design ideas and structures. We will be using power tools, in conjunction with hand tools, to create and build our projects. Working individually, and in teams, students will learn to work with one another, and support one another, throughout the course of the class. In terms of executive functioning ADHD programs have the ability to really help students, and we feel that Special Projects is one of the best ways to do this. It really is a lot of fun.
In past summers, one of the most popular parts of the program was raft-building in the wood shop. The awesome variety of rafts and boats the students have made is really cool! They have also made little tables, handmade jewelry boxes, and much more. It is a really cool class and it is one of the highlights of the week! Don’t miss out on your turn to make something cool… and to learn something about yourself in the meantime.
